Paper punch cards vs digital: the real cost per year

Printing, reprints, copied cards, and staff time add up. Here is a rough annual cost of a paper punch card program against a digital stamp card in India.

Paper punch cards feel free because the cost is spread out: a print run here, a reprint there, a few cards you know were copied, and staff time you never counted. Put rough numbers on it and the comparison with a digital stamp card gets clearer. Use your own figures, these are just a shape.

The paper side of the ledger

  • Printing: 2,000 cards a year at ₹3–6 each is ₹6,000–12,000, more for thick stock or a designer.
  • Reprints: offer changes, a torn batch, a new logo. Budget at least one extra run.
  • A stamp or punch tool, replaced when it walks off.
  • Copied and over-punched cards: even 3–5 free items a month you did not earn is a real number on a ₹150 product.
  • Staff time: explaining, re-issuing lost cards, arguing about smudged marks at peak hour.

None of those line items is huge on its own. Together, a single-counter shop can spend ₹15,000–30,000 a year keeping a paper program alive, and most of it is invisible until you add it up.

The digital side

A digital stamp card moves the cost to a flat, predictable line. On Stampzo the first program is free, so the test period costs nothing. After that it is a flat price in rupees, no per-customer fee, and the only printing is the QR kit once, plus a reprint if the offer changes.

Paper

₹15k–30k a year in print, reprints, copied cards, and counter time.

Digital

Free first program, then a flat INR line. One QR kit to print.

The swing

Copied-card losses and re-issue time mostly disappear with a name check.

When paper is still cheaper

A weekend stall or a one-month pop-up will not recover any setup effort, so cardboard is fine there. A shop with steady regulars and a repeating offer is the case where the paper cost keeps running and a digital stamp card starts to pay for itself.

Paper is not free. It is just billed in small amounts you stopped noticing.

Run your own numbers with your card price and visit count. If you want to see the flat side first, the pricing page has it, and the four-step overview shows where printing stops. Official site stampzo.in, first program free.
